MIT 2019

https://sites.google.com/manaiakalani.org/mit/home

Exciting News ... have been accepted on the Manaiakalani Innovative Teaching Programme for 2019.

Looking forward to working with the MIT facilitators and other teachers around the country.

I feel like a student again, out of my comfort zone and will definitely be in that infamous learning pit during my MIT journey in 2019.

My initial proposal will be in the area of Mathematics and building and developing teacher capability in Mathematics using word problems in context to improve and accelerate students progress and achievement in Mathematics. Undertaking my teaching inquiry using the concepts of words, symbols and diagram when solving mathematical word problems using the Manaiakalani model of Learn, Create and Share.

I am sure it will be challenging and rewarding, and with the support of my work colleagues and those involved in the programme, I will enjoy the experience and opportunity of further developing my passion and interest for Mathematics.

The famous Albert Einstein said:

'Life is like a bicycle. To keep balance you must keep moving'.

I will be riding my bike, fast, slow and I may crash and burn, although the MIT programme will allow me to keep my balance.

WEEK 9 - D DAY!

Today is D DAY!

Opportunity to put in place all the learning and journey over the 8 weeks sitting the Goggle Exam ... 3 hours!

I have felt like I was one of my students in my class, sitting a exam and feeling ALL the emotions.

I encourage and support my students to take risks and 'give it a go'!

I am so proud of my achievements and progress made in the course and unfortunately I did not pass the exam

Here is the email received, after the exam.

I will try again and sit the exam a second time in a few days .... BRING IT ON!

WEEK 8 - DFI

I was away on Camp and missed my very first DFI session since starting 8 weeks ago.

I was able to still access the agenda item and go through the session and learning.

Also preparing for the exam next week with using the checklist and the wonderful resources provided by Eric Curtis.

Below is a link from his wonderful website!

Also excited that I registered for the exam.

WEEK 6 - DFI

What a GREAT learning opportunity about Class Sites.

Seeing other sites that effective and visible for the learners!

Below is a start of the Class Site for 2019. Although it is W.I.P I am excited about the on-going development of the site.

Next year I will be working with another teaching professional.  So we will be working collaboratively with them!

A big thanks to those participants for their honest feedback on my current Class Site. I will use the feedback to refine and make my site for 2019.

WEEK 5 - DFI

What a GREAT day!

I have really enjoyed TODAY ... learning about Google Sites.

Feeling apprehensive, after learning about Google Sites at the beginning of the year, today has made the teaching and learning about Sites easier.

Google has provided the resources and tools to make teaching enjoyable, fun and easy.

Below is my incomplete site, but have learnt numerous tips about creating a site eye catching for both my teaching and learning of my students.

WEEK 4 - DFI

After a week of investigating and researching aspects from last weeks session/tasks/learning, I was looking forward to this weeks journey "Dealing with Data".

I consider to be an expert on Google Sheets/Forms. Was able to learn a few tips about Google Forms from Gerhard ... just a few ... two!.

Really found Google Maps interesting and will go away today and do more learning and researching how I can use it in and out of the class.

Below is a task and challenge created using "Dealing with Data" and a student post and analysis of the data and create graphs and present it in Google Drawing.

Another week Gerhard showing us new things that will help our students and make my teaching life easier.

WEEK 3 - DFI

A hard day today trying to get motivated, although once again considerable amount of learning new things.

Really found using Google Drawing and creating a portrait hard and difficult. Will need to find the energy and time to explore and play further.

Enjoyed putting the time and enthusiasm creating my Pepeha in Google Slides and asking experts about the protocols of a Pepeha.

Below is my incomplete Pepeha and I will use the time this coming week to complete and I will also screencastify the presentation.

Another week of both Dorothy and Gerhard showing us new things that will help our students and make ot teaching life easier.

Week 2 - DFI

WOW ... another week of intensive learning and tips. Today was a day I thought a knew everything about Gmail/Calendar, BUT again learnt more tips and techniques to help with workflow.

What was very cool was when we started using Google Hangouts/Meet. Something I will be using with both staff and students at Wesley Primary School. The functionality allows you with remote meetings, video calling and OR screen sharing.

Both Gerhard and Dorothy put us under pressure and were asked to create a Google Hangout.
Sarah, Kiri and I took up the challenge and created our very own Hangout. See below for our group effort. Disclaimer: There appears to be a issue with the sound!

This course has further reinforced the important of using the technology to help your workflow in and out of school.

Day 1 - Digital Fluency Intensive Course

What a GREAT day!

TODAY I was a learner, learning new stuff and at times I was at the bottom of the pit. The facilitators Dorothy, Gerhard, and Fiona were AMAZING and they helped me get to the top of the cliff again. Meeting other teachers and making connections with the technology has and will equip me for the journey ahead for the next 8 weeks.
I feel I will be better prepared to help and support my learners after the course.
Bring on Week 2 ... see you ALL next Friday
