Manaiakalani Beachside Hui: Design Thinking

What a intensive and thought provoking weekend. It has pushed my thinking and feeling like the bottom of the learning pit. Was able to spend time and have discussions with other colleagues about their inquiry and considerable energy and debate was had about adjusting our inquiry problem. The 3 day event has made me fully understand and appreciate the design thinking process. The honest feedback and deliberate acts of role plays and made me more determined to consider and review my inquiry. It has been hard, although the discussions and professional conversations with other MIT participants and the facilitators will mean I have two weeks before we all do it again. This time we meet in Auckland for one day.  I have had time to ponder and discuss my inquiry with the 'Who'(s) that will help and support in my journey. I have made contact with one of those who and will await the discussion and catch-up with them to further support and facilitate my design thinking inquiry. I will not give up and it has made me more determined to be creative, innovative and resilient to be successful.
A BIG THANK YOU to all those at Manaiakalani for their support in the programme.

  1. Yes Santi there were a lot of mental gymnastics at our hui, leaving people excited and charged but also questioning the impact of their ideas they had posited. It will be great to see where your thinking has gone since the beach at our meeting tomorrow.

  2. Hi Santi - I have been thinking about your student maths inquiry process. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense in terms of real contexts for the mathematical concepts. I have also been pondering a "re-invention" of how the curriculum works - like we discussed - in line with the Science model. Am thinking this might work too. How will you implement it in the classroom is what I am keen to hear...

  3. I appreciate the honesty and openness you bring to this and your contribution to the group. This scene setting at the beach is an important part of the process on many levels. I will read with interest the direction your reflections have taken after our day at KPMG.
Have a great end to the term.
